Structal Lands a $23-Million Contract for the Lac Mirabel Complex |

(BOUCHERVILLE, QC) – Structal-Heavy Steel Construction (“Structal”), a business unit of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM), has obtained a $23-million contract from Chardonnay Construction for the fabrication and erection of the structural steel that will be used for the construction of Phase 1 of the huge recreational and commercial Lac Mirabel complex, scheduled to open in the fall of 2009. Le Groupe Murray Frankel is the project manager for this mega-mall worth $1.2 billion on behalf of real estate developer Gordon Group Holdings of Greenwich, Connecticut.
“We are honored to take part in the success of this project,” says Structal’s president Luc Pelland, “which we won on the strength of Canam Group’s track record, but especially because of our project management skills, technical expertise and manufacturing capacities that allow us to meet very tight deadlines.”
The Lac Mirabel complex will occupy more than 2,000,000 square feet (185,807 m2) and will be erected on a huge 330-acre property to the west of the Laurentian Autoroute (Highway 15) in Mirabel. This massive complex, built in a beautiful, natural setting dotted with lakes, will integrate commercial and retail space, including major retail chains, theaters, hotels, a spa and restaurants.
The structural steel components required for this project will be fabricated at Canam Group’s Quebec-based St. Gédéon and Boucherville plants. Work is slated to begin in April 2008 and end by late December 2008. The Technyx business unit, specialized in the provision of engineering services, will also participate in this project from its offices in Boucherville, St. Georges and Brasov in Romania.
Structal-Heavy Steel Construction is the business unit of Canam Group specialized in the construction of major and complex projects, including the provision of engineering support, design-build and project management services.
In the past year, Structal-Heavy Steel Construction teamed up with Canam Group to work on a similar project in the Greater New York City Area.
