On May 1, 2008, an official ceremony was held to mark the erection of the final steel component at New Yankee Stadium. Marcel Dutil, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Canam Group, attended the ceremony accompanied by several members of the Structal-Heavy Steel Construction management team, including Luc Pelland, President, Charles Watson, President, Structal U.S., Peter Frantz, Vice President of Sales, U.S., and Manager of International Business Development, Daniel Renaud, Manager, Project Management, Canada, and Dave Breau, Project Manager. Also present at the ceremony were Peter J. Davoren, President of Turner Construction Company, the general contractor, and Robert W. “Bob” Koch, President and CEO of Skanska Koch Inc.
All the workers on site were invited to attend the ceremony, which gathered some 1,200 people. Note that members of the local Ironworkers union who worked on this project also took part in a fundraiser organized by the New York Post for the Warrior and Family Support Center in San Antonio, Texas.
In September 2006, Structal-Heavy Steel Construction, a business unit of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM), located in Point of Rocks, MD, secured a CA$40M contract from Skanska Koch for the fabrication of the structural steel that was used to build the new Yankee Stadium in New York. The total cost of this construction project is estimated at US$800M (CA$900M). Technyx, another Canam Group business unit that markets outsourcing services in the industrial drafting sector, produced the shop drawings for New Yankee Stadium.
