Testimonials

A group’s life experiences

We take great pride in the multitude of achievements that have marked our group’s history over the years and even more in the testimonials we get from our employees, who take an active part in the development of Canam Group. Whether they are involved with product design, customer service, just-on-time delivery or research and development, their focus is always on the customer and on meeting customer needs.

Michele Barndollar
Joist Coordinator II, Point of Rocks, MD

"I’m proud to say that I will have been with Canam Steel Corporation for 12 years as of July 2005. My job responsibilities make me the link between the production staff and the project management and engineering group, keeping track of the flow of activity between these two groups. I enjoy my work at Canam because it gives me the opportunity to contribute to the company's success. Canam consistently delivers a quality product on time, but it’s not just one person or department that’s involved, it’s everyone working together as a team!"

Jean-Luc Lachance
Information Systems Architect, St-Georges, QC

"My job, since I joined Canam 16 years ago, has been to ensure that we meet the software development needs of the estimation, engineering and detailing teams for the entire range of company products.

We provide solutions designed to improve their software tools and, consequently, product quality. By standardizing business processes, we increase productivity and product quality, while at the same time reducing production costs.

This is definitely where I belong because I feel that my efforts count towards achieving the company's objectives."

Cindy Martin
Administrative Payroll Assistant, Sunnyside, WA

"In the four years I’ve worked for Canam and Sun, I’ve been given great opportunities to grow. I started out as a receptionist and went on to become an administrative assistant, and now I have a chance to learn payroll from the bottom up in my job as Administrative Payroll Assistant for Sunnyside. And I have the convenience of working close to home, which is great because most people have to travel to Yakima or the Tri-Cities to get a good job like this. Canam is considered to be one of the bigger companies and better employers in the lower Yakima Valley area."

Annie Paquet
CREM Manager, Saint-Georges, QC

"From the time I joined Canam in 1991, my efforts have been focused on improving the company's performance. For five years, I was a member of the committee that launched the continuous improvement program, called the Canam Merit Award program, at several of our business locations.

Up until 1996, my work consisted in carrying out time studies, developing tools and updating parameters for estimating labor costs.

Between 1996 and 1998, I coordinated continuous improvement projects at the Saint-Gédéon plant as well as the project to set up an industrial engineering team at Saint-Gédéon. I eventually assumed this coordinating role for all Canam plants. Since January 2004, I've been working with the team at the Research Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CREM) on the implementation of continuous improvement projects at Canam Group’s different business locations in Canada.

In 2005, we implemented 63 continuous improvement projects in ten of Canam Group's plants or offices, a major increase compared to 2004. In fact, in 2004, during our first year, we implemented 14 improvement projects in 4 plants or offices. In 2005, during our second year, we exceeded our auto-financing goal, achieving an impressive 190%. I'm delighted with these results, which are a testament to our teamwork.

I’m happy with the work I do at Canam because I thrive on challenges. I get a chance to work with people from every sector of Canam's plants and offices. Since continuous improvement projects require teamwork, I particularly enjoy the group process or "dynamics" of working towards common goals. That's what makes my job so interesting."
