Technyx shines at the 2010 Tekla Structures NA BIM Awards

Technyx won top honors at this year’s Tekla Structures North America BIM Awards, an annual competition showcasing construction projects that employ its 3D building information modeling software to create, open and interface 3D structural models.
The business unit won first place in the Commercial/Institutional Model – Steel category for its work on the Consol Energy Center, which is the new home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The winners in the four categories were announced at a user meeting in mid-August and are automatically entered in the 2010 Tekla Structures Global BIM Awards that is slated to take place this fall.
A joint collaboration
Technyx worked in close collaboration with the various project partners and coordinated the integration of multiple building components into its 3D model, a key element to the success of any BIM project.
The business unit began by incorporating precast concrete components into the model in order to detect interferences with structural steel elements. The new Model Sharing feature in Tekla Structures software was also used to synchronize activities in several drafting rooms that were working on the same model simultaneously.
Once the 3D model was completed, it was transferred to the project partner in charge of drafting steel deck components in order to streamline the production of drawings. CNC transfers were then used to fabricate the different components, thus keeping the risk of error to a minimum.
Congratulations to the Technyx team members in Boucherville, Brasov and St. Georges who took on the many challenges of this project and turned them into a resounding success!
