Conference at McGill University
A look back at four major league challenges

Last November 26, Serge Dussault, vice president of engineering at Canam Group, and André Cantin, engineering manager at Structal-Heavy Steel Construction, gave a conference at McGill University to relate their experience in the construction of four professional sports stadiums in and around New York. Structal-Heavy Steel Construction and several other Canam Group business units played key roles in the construction of Citi Field and New Yankee Stadium, two baseball parks that will be the new home of the NY Mets and the NY Yankees respectively, the New Meadowlands Stadium, a football stadium that will be shared by the NY Giants and the NY Jets, and the Red Bull Arena soccer stadium, which will soon be the home of the NY Red Bulls.

Close to 70 engineers attended the conference in which the two speakers shared their experience and discussed the main challenges they encountered. As part of their conclusion, Messrs. Dussault and Cantin also underlined the importance of close collaboration with all project partners in the early stages of a project in order to guarantee its success.

The conference was organized by the Montreal Structural Engineers (MSA).

The unique technical challenges encountered in the construction of the four stadiums generated great interest among the attending engineers, resulting in a number of exchanges between the speakers and their audience.
